11/24/09 WA County Board of Commissioners Meeting

All Fair Boosters and Fair Complex users/associates are requested to attend an important meeting of the Washington County Board of Commissioners (BOC), Tuesday, Nov. 24th, 2009, starting at 6:30 PM in the Shirley Huffman auditorium, located on the ground floor at the west side of the Washington County Public Services Building at 155 N. First Ave., Hillsboro, OR 97124. Your presence is requested to let the BOC "see" and "hear" you at the meeting!

There are currently four (4 ea.) open positions on the 2010 Fair Board, which the BOC will be considering candidates to fill those positions, with applications due to the County by Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009.

Anyone in Washington County may apply for these open Fair Board positions, however, we are encouraging current users of the Fair Complex facility (i.e. 4H, FFA, Master Gardeners, Fair Boosters, etc.) to apply for these open Fair Board positions in order to effect the changes necessary for that facility to continue to grow and serve the people of Washington County.

So what does all of this mean???

The latest scoop that we can make is that the Washington County Board of Commissioners (BOC) has decided to segregate the functions of the current Fair Board into a new entity (yet to be named) which will ONLY overseen and help manager the Annual Washington County Fair. The BOC said that they will formulate the "who, what, where, when and how" of this new entity by by Feb. 2010!

The new positions to be held on this "New Fair Board" will most likely be filled by representatives who currently are members and/or work with organization which participate in the events at the Annual County Fair. These representatives would be better suited to advise the Fair Complex management of their specific Fair event needs in preparation for each years Fair!

Finally, the management of the Fair Complex property and buildings would remain under the County's direct control, however, the BOC indicated that they would create a yet to be named Fair Complex property oversight committee to help make recommendation to the BOC regarding the Fair Complex's property management and build-out towards the County adopted "Master Plan"! [NOTE: It is unclear at this time what process will be used to select and appoint individuals to this important yet un-named committee!]

Stay tuned!!!
